I will be using this for the first time with a new Scicon bike bag, next week. I think both are well made and seem to have addressed many issues of transporting bikes. I have knocked off one star for the cost of the shield. If it is required then ideally it should come with the bike bag !

I was worried about protecting the levers/hoods from the bag being upside down and side impact from the bag being thrown on its side. This shield consists of a thin plastic sheet on the outside edge and thick foam padding. It's like a rigid box with foam padding. It's a tight fit at the hoods for a road bike even for 42mm bars.

On a recent flight from Rome to Stockholm, I was lucky enough to have a view of the luggage handlers loading my bike onto the plane. There were three Scicon Aerocomfort 3.0 bags to be loaded.
